Key Florida Senate Meetings Today on Bad Faith & Property

The Senate Judiciary Committee conducts a workshop from 9 a.m. to noon today on Florida’s insurer bad faith laws. It is in Room 110, Senate Office Building, Tallahassee. This will be one of the big insurance battles during the upcoming session between the trial lawyers and the business/insurance communities.

It does not appear that the meeting is available for live streaming viewing. The meeting package available from the Senate Internet site does have some good background – from Tallahassee attorney George Meros and other proponents of conforming Florida’s bad faith laws to what exists in other states; and from the trial lawyers (Florida Justice Association).  See this link:

Here is the Judiciary Committee notice on the workshop:  Discussion of "Bad Faith" Insurance Litigation: The committee will receive presentations from invited speakers advocating for or against reforms to the law governing a civil action alleging that an insurer acted in bad faith for failing to settle a claim.”

The Senate Banking & Insurance Committee meets from 1 to 3 p.m. today in Room 412, Knott Building. It is expected to approve SB 408, this year’s comprehensive property insurance package. This meeting is scheduled for coverage from both the Senate site:

and WFSU TV, The Florida Channel:
