Citizens Property Insurance Corporation on July 20 issued a news release encouraging Floridians to turn to the program for coverage if they are non-renewed by carriers in the privated market. The release appears consistent with - and may be a strategy for - a new direction advocated by Governor Charlie Crist - active competition by Citizens with private insurers.

Re: Citizens Ready to Help, Official Says
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Floridians worried about the effect of sweeping changes in Florida's insurance market over the past several months on their policies should know Citizens Property Insurance Corporation is ready to help, a company official said Friday.
"So many things have occurred this year that affect insurance coverage for homeowners and businesses," said Executive Vice President Susanne Murphy. "We want people to know Citizens is here to help them obtain coverage if they need us."
Murphy said people whose policies are not being renewed or who cannot get insurance can locate a Citizens agent by going to www.citizensfla.com and locating the "Looking for a Citizens Agent?" display on the bottom right side of the home page.
"If you enter your zip code, the agents near you will be displayed," she said. "Please shop and compare," Murphy said. "We want consumers to get the most coverage for their premium dollar."
