Allstate’s George Grawe Installed as Chairman of the Florida Insurance Council,
Florida’s Largest Non-Profit Insurance Trade Association
(TALLAHASSEE, FL) -George Grawe, Regional Counsel for Allstate Insurance Company and the Allstate Floridian Insurance Companies, St. Petersburg, was installed as 2007/2008 Chairman of the Florida Insurance Council’s Executive Committee and Board during the Council’s annual conference June 24-27.
As Chairman, Mr. Grawe will direct the work of the Executive Committee and Board and work closely with FIC President Guy Marvin, Executive Vice President Sam Miller and other staff in providing member companies with educational programs, research, and representation before consumer, legislative, regulatory, and judiciary organizations.
The Florida Insurance Council is dedicated to the highest standards of business ethics and professionalism; committed to promoting and protecting the viability of the insurance market; resolved to earn consumer confidence and trust, and determined to foster a positive public image of the insurance community.
In accepting the chairmanship for the next year, Mr. Grawe told members the environment for the industry has changed dramatically in the past few months. “Through it all, we have stood tall, working on behalf of our companies and our customers.”
He said insurance is the “lubricant of our economy.” Without insurance, he said, we would be unable to pay for our health care, businesses would be unable to employ its workers, and millions of Americans would be unable to plan for the future.
Mr. Grawe began his legal career as an assistant city attorney in the Tampa City Attorney’s Office. Following that three-year stint, he has served as a legal advocate for the insurance industry since 1987-first as a trial lawyer for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, then as an attorney for the Allstate Insurance Company-a position he was awarded in 1988.
At Allstate, his responsibilities quickly advanced from trial lawyer, to managing attorney to director of Retained Counsel for the Eastern United States, to Director of Staff Counsel for the Eastern United States, to his current position of Counsel of the Florida Region where he serves as Regional Counsel for Allstate’s operations in the state of Florida and as a legal advisor and counselor to Florida’s senior management team on a variety of matters, including legislative and regulatory affairs, governance and compliance. He is also Allstate’s designated lobbyist for Florida.
Other officers installed at the annual conference are: Bill Dudley, AFLAC, Columbus, Georgia is the newly installed chair-elect and will succeed George Grawe next year. Kurt Driscoll, First Professionals Insurance Company, Jacksonville, was installed as treasurer, and James Trafton, Florida Farm Bureau Insurance Company was elected secretary. Mr. Grawe succeeds Tom Koval, FCCI Group, Sarasota who served as FIC Chairman for the 2006/2007 term.
