The Florida Legislature has approved a bill that requires in advance written good faith estimates for non-emergency hospital care.

Pushed by a coalition of consumer and business groups calling itself HeatlhCheck, the bill, SB 1488, also requires hospitals to disclose on the Internet their non-discounted  prices for the 150 most common procedures.  Specifically the bill rerquires health care providers and facilities to provide an insured person a reasonable estimate of charges and information regarding the provider's discount and charity policies.

The bill was sponsored by Sen. Charlie Dean.
