Information: Gary Landry is Vice President of the Florida Insurance Council, the state’s largest insurance company trade association consisting of 250 member companies writing business in Florida.

His responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of the Council’s public affairs, government affairs and communications programs.

Gary also represents the Council and the overall Florida insurance community before the Governor and Florida Cabinet, the Florida Legislature and other state agencies. He also represents the insurance industry in Partners in Recovery --a disaster coalition consisting of the Florida Department of Financial Services, the state Division of Emergency Management and other government agencies and the insurance industry.

Prior to joining the Florida Insurance Council, Gary was managing director of the Slevin Group, a media and public affairs firm specializing in insurance industry matters. The Slevin Group has offices in Tallahassee and Miami as well as offices in Jackson, Mississippi and Nashville, Tennessee.

Gary previously served as Senior Policy Analyst for the James Madison Institute, a free-market think tank located in Tallahassee, established by Dr. J. Stanley Marshall, former president of Florida State University. He also served as Communications Director for the Republican Party of Florida, as the party won majority status in its congressional delegation and established the groundwork for the party to win control of all levels of state government, from the Governor’s office, to the Florida Cabinet, House and Senate. He also served as communications director for several other trade associations in Florida.

Gary began his career as a television and newspaper reporter in Louisiana and Mississippi. He won many reporting awards during his illustrious career, including the distinguished First Place Award for Economic Reporting from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.

In his many journeys, Landry traveled to the former communist-led country of Mongolia by invitation of the International Republican Institute. In Mongolia, he consulted with members of the nation’s Parliament, the Grand Hural. He met and advised political leaders and their staff on methods of building effective political communications programs as that country continues its transition from communist rule to a multi-party democracy.

He and his wife, Leah, reside in Tallahassee. They have one daughter in college.
